Italy’s ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, his bodyguard, and a driver from the UN World Food Programme were killed on Monday in the east of the country after their convoy was attacked. The deaths of the ambassador, Luca Attanasio, 43, Italian military policeman Vittorio Iacovacci, 30, and a Congolese driver, whose name has not been released, were confirmed by the Italian government. "When we heard gunshots we did not know what had happened we went to the scene they had just kidnapped the ambassador, they took him into the bush and immediately they clashed with the park guards," one witness, who did not give his name, told Africanews. "They managed to shoot the ambassador, they shot a driver, and the ambassador's security officer died. "And then suddenly the FARDC (DRC armed forces) went there and they managed to save the ambassador to take him to Goma for intensive care." The suspensions apply to the model airplane used in Saturday's flight to Hawaii, the 777 powered by Pratt & Whitney 4000-112 engines, the company said in a statement. Sixty-nine of the aircraft were in use, Boeing said. Fifty-nine more were in storage. The company said the suspensions would remain in effect until the Federal Aviation Administration identified an "appropriate inspection protocol" for the aircraft. The department administrator, Steve Dickson, said earlier that he ordered "stepped-up" inspections of the aircraft after consulting with a team of aviation safety experts. Ossy Prestige and leaders of his party, the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) thronged the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja to receive his body. Hon. Prestige is popular among his Aba constituents for his people-oriented projects especially in the education of children of the poor.
